Why Tockwell

The Tockwell Approach

Watchmaker, Not Technician

Every watch is handled by a trained watchmaker with formal horological education — not a generalist technician working from a manual.

Clear Communication

We share observations in plain language. You will always know what we found, what we recommend, and why — before any work begins.

No Pressure, No Rush

We pace our work to the watch's needs. Quality is not something that benefits from being hurried, and we do not treat it as though it does.

Documented Progress

For restoration work, photographic records are made at each milestone — so you are never left wondering about the journey your watch has taken.

Parts Integrity

We source period-correct components wherever possible and never substitute with parts that alter the character of the original movement.

Agreed Scope, Always

Nothing beyond the agreed scope proceeds without your explicit consent. Surprises on a bill are not something we consider acceptable practice.

Common Questions

Things People Ask

How do I know which service my watch needs?
The best starting point is simply to bring the watch in — or to write to us with a description of its condition. We are happy to offer an honest assessment before any decision is made. There is no obligation in asking.
Do you work with all watch brands and movement types?
We work with a wide range of mechanical and quartz movements across Swiss, Japanese, and German manufacture. For highly specialised or proprietary movements, we will advise you honestly about what is within our scope and what may require a specialist elsewhere.
Can I receive a quote before work begins?
Yes, always. For Routine Care and Movement Rebuild services, pricing is transparent from the start. For Devotional Restoration work, a full scope and cost is agreed before we proceed — nothing begins without your clear acceptance.
What if additional issues are found during the service?
If our watchmaker discovers something beyond the original scope, we stop, document the finding, and contact you before proceeding. We do not expand the scope without your knowledge and consent.
Is my watch insured while in your care?
Watches in our workshop are held under careful conditions, and we have professional coverage in place. For pieces of exceptional value, we recommend discussing this with us directly so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
How do I collect my watch when the service is complete?
We will notify you when the work is finished. Collection in person from our Ipoh workshop is warmly welcomed — it is an opportunity to walk through what was done and address any questions you may have. For those who are not local, we can discuss secure dispatch arrangements.
